It’s not going to be perfect.
Another post I wrote before discovering Substack. It’s the prologue to my solo sail around the Isle of Wight, part of my sailing solo training. At some point I will post also about the sailing itself!

Today I’m travelling to Gosport to complete the installation of the wind vane and test it tomorrow, ideally with a round the island sail which should take 10 hrs or so.
I’ve been planning for this for long, but sometime the weather was not good, other times the tide and others I had things to do that I could not move around.
All fine it seems. But an important thing happened to my son that might be create great opportunities for his future. And tomorrow I’ll have to make some phone calls.
But wait! I am supposed to be sailing around the IoW!!
This morning I almost cancel the trip, knowing that there won’t be more opportunities in the foreseeable future.
Even when you’re ready, you’re never ready. Things don’t happen in linear succession. Life is messy. And I love it!
You can’t just wait for everything to be perfect before you start something, you have to let go of this need for perfection and get moving.
This does not mean that you should be sloppy. Particularly with something as demanding as a solo sail around the world. But even there, with One and Ocean, I’ll do all I can to be ready so that I don’t put my life in jeopardy, but I bet that the day I set sails there will be 100s of things which are not ready, not as they should be or as I’d like them to be.
Yet I will set sails because the day will be right, the weather will be at least decent, and it won’t make sense to wait longer.
So today I decided to go to Gosport anyways. I’ll take the phone calls from the boat while sailing. Not easy, but I will manage.
Funny thing, in the rush to leave today - later than planned of course because it took me some time to process the decision - I forgot to bring the camera and mic! The key tools of a vlogger (but actually am I really a vlogger?)
So I will make do with my mobile. That’s life. It’s not going to be perfect. I am not 100% ready to sail and film. But I will find my way around it.
And around the Isle of Wight!
